Russian tennis star Mirra Andreeva could not hold back tears following her loss in the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid.

The 19-year-old Russian fell to Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk with a score of 3:6, 5:7.
During the award ceremony, Andreeva first congratulated her opponent, but when she began thanking her own team, her emotions got the better of her. “Thank you to my team for always being there. I’m sorry. I promised myself I wouldn’t cry. I just won’t look at you, because it’s harder that way,” Andreeva said with tears in her eyes.
She added: “Thank you to my team for always being by my side and supporting me through both easy and hard times. I know it’s not always easy to work with me, but I truly appreciate your support and everything you do for me.”
The Madrid champion will take home more than €1 million in prize money and 1,000 ranking points, while the runner-up receives €535,500 and 650 points.
