The International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) has lifted all restrictions on Belarusian athletes, according to a statement from the organization. Starting next week, Belarusian athletes and teams will be able to freely represent their country at UIPM-sanctioned events, following a decision by the UIPM Executive Board to remove all limitations on their participation.
Previously, Belarusian athletes had been competing as Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN) since March 2023, when the UIPM aligned its policies with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Two months later, an independent commission was established to verify compliance with AIN requirements. On May 7, 2026, the IOC recommended lifting all remaining restrictions on Belarusian athletes and teams in global sports, prompting the UIPM to act.
“The UIPM removes restrictions for Belarusian athletes effective today for all future UIPM events (excluding the upcoming World Cup in Pazardzhik). Belarusian athletes will be allowed to compete in national uniforms, under their flag, and with their national anthem,” the statement read.
Notably, sanctions against Russian athletes remain in place. Russians will continue to compete internationally under a neutral status, without any change in their current standing.
