Mariano Peña, the veteran Spanish actor best known for portraying Mauricio Colmenero in the hit series ‘Aída’, set the record straight on Monday night during an appearance on ‘La Revuelta’, the late-night talk show hosted by David Broncano on La 1.

Upon entering the studio, Peña was warmly welcomed by Broncano, who called him “a true star” and “one of the great actors.” Peña responded with a humble grin, “It’s a pleasure to be here.” The conversation quickly turned to a recurring theme: his iconic character. “A lot of people confuse my real name with Mauricio Colmenero,” Peña explained. “They call me Mauricio on the street, or even worse, they mix up the whole name. It happens all the time.”

Despite the confusion, Peña expressed mixed feelings about the role that defined a large part of his career. “I’d rather not be forever tied to ‘Aída’,” he admitted. “It was a wonderful show, but I’ve moved on.” Still, he acknowledged the enduring affection for the character.

Later in the interview, the 66-year-old actor discussed his longevity in the industry. “I still have plenty left in the tank,” he said with his characteristic irony. “I don’t want to retire. Acting keeps me alive. I want to die with my boots on.” Broncano replied, “Congratulations on your great career.”

Peña also touched on his latest projects, including the upcoming RTVE comedy series ‘Barrio Esperanza’ and his new stage play ‘Los del camping’. “Every project is like a melon,” he said. “You don’t know if it’ll taste good until people open it and decide. But I’m very satisfied with this comedy series.”

The show ended with Broncano’s signature rapid-fire questions about Peña’s personal life. When asked about his total assets, Peña joked, “I don’t have a concrete number.” Regarding his sexual activity in the past 30 days, he quipped, “It was a good month.”

Peña’s appearance was a homecoming of sorts – earlier this year, several cast members from ‘Aída’ had visited the show, but Peña was absent. “I’m glad I was missed,” he smiled.

Other topics included his upcoming schedule, his thoughts on aging, and a playful exchange of gifts with the host. The interview offered a rare candid glimpse into the mind of an actor who, despite decades on screen, remains refreshingly down-to-earth.
